Life is like a box of chocolates: you never know what you’re going to get. That is why creating a Will makes sense. At PGS Law, we can ensure that a bespoke Will is prepared so that your wishes will be carried out should anything happen to you.
Our Wills and Probate team is fronted by Bill Dryden, the Firm’s Managing Partner. Bill has been with PGS Law since 1987. He prides himself on delivering clarity and insight in the work carried out for his clients. Rather than producing reams of formal paperwork, the team prefers to pick up the telephone to speak to clients, cutting through frustrating delays.
Making a Will now can not only ensure that you can leave your assets to your loved ones, but it can also avoid legal problems arising for your family in the future. It is a common assumption that if you die without making a Will, all of your possessions will pass to your partner or children. However, this is not always the case.
We can deal with everything from simple mirror Wills, where spouses leave their entire estate to their partners, through to complex Wills for people with multiple businesses and properties. It may also be possible to reduce or eliminate the inheritance tax liability of your estate with careful planning, enabling you to keep assets within your family.
We offer Fixed Fee Wills, and for more complex Wills, one of our legal team will take your instructions and advise you of the costs in advance, so there will be no nasty surprises.
Another misconceived belief is that Trusts are exclusively for the wealthy. In actual fact, Trusts can be used to help protect and control wealth for all sorts of people in lots of different circumstances.
You may wish to set up a Trust during your lifetime or through your Will. There are many different types of Trusts, and we can advise you on the most suitable type for your circumstances. Trusts can be used to provide an interest income to one person whilst protecting the capital for a different set of beneficiaries, and they can also be used to provide for vulnerable children or adults. Trusts are treated separately for tax purposes and are assessed independently for inheritance tax, capital gains tax and income tax.
At PGS Law, our solicitors have specialist knowledge to ensure that the right Will is prepared for you and your family. Our friendly and approachable team will explain everything to you as clearly as possible and will offer free initial advice before you decide whether you want to go ahead.
We also deal with Probate and Estate Administration should someone die. Administering an estate can be onerous, and if you are an executor or administrator, it carries personal liability if anything is not done correctly or if important legal points are missed. For example, HM Revenue and Customs can impose severe financial penalties for comparatively trivial errors made in Inheritance Tax Accounts.
Our team can assist you with all aspects of estate administration, whether or not there is a Will and whatever the estate size. We can advise you on your responsibilities as executors/administrators, arrange for assets and liabilities to be valued, and complete tax returns and inheritance tax accounts for HM Revenue and Customs.
We have the specialist knowledge to ensure that the right Will, LPA or Trust is prepared for you and your family. Our friendly and approachable team will explain everything to you as clearly as possible and will offer free initial advice before you decide whether you want to go ahead.
