Mental Health Legal Services

After a diagnosis of dementia, many people and their families like to put provisions in place to protect their family and loved ones in the future. This advanced care planning may include making or updating a Will, or appointing a person (or people) to fulfil their own wishes and act on their behalf should they be unable to do so themselves in the future.

Lasting Powers of Attorney

Appointing an attorney(s) under a Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) can provide comfort and peace of mind as part of any long-term dementia care planning. For dementia sufferers, knowing that they have a chosen advocate to act on their behalf and carry out their wishes can bring great comfort at a time of distress. From decisions about health and wellbeing to wishes regarding property and finance, PGS Law’s specialist dementia solicitors can ensure the legal requirements are in place to ensure those wishes are fulfilled.

Court of Protection

If no provision has been made for a LPA or if a person has since lost the ability to do so through their condition, PGS Law can assist by applying to the Court of Protection to appoint a deputy to act in the best interests of someone who has lost the mental capacity to do.

PGS Law can advise on the procedure and format for court applications and even prepare paperwork and provide representation at court hearings; helping to assist the family throughout the entire process.
