Care Home Services

Deciding when to seek full-time social care support by placing a friend or relative in a specialist care home can be a difficult one. The simple act of choosing the correct care home to meet their needs can be an overwhelming process. Whether they need full residential care, nursing care or specialist dementia care, PGS Law can help guide you through all of the options.

Care Home Support Services

Option 1 - If the decision is made for your love one to go into a care home, we can provide support to identify a number of appropriately registered placements to meet the level of need required. The list would be complete with CQC rating and a brief synopsis of the services each home offers. This service would be carried out remotely by mail and/or online.

Option 2 - If you and your family would prefer a personal one to one service, we can provide escorted visits to appropriate care homes during which we will provide an in depth explanation of services provided in each placement.

This service will also facilitate assessment and admission processes and will include an initial discussion regarding possible funding options.

Care Home Inspection Service

We offer what we consider to be a unique service, in that we can provide a specialist advocate to carry out a review of the care home in which your family member may already be a resident, to ensure they are being appropriately cared for and also that the documentation relating to their care is robust, comprehensive, accurate, and complete.  Care home records should not only be detailed and accurate but they also form an integral part of any funding application, which means that their accuracy can be pivotal in a decision as to a person’s eligibility for funding.

Care Home Funding Assessment and Advice

We particularly specialise in assisting clients and their family members to explore any funding options which may be available to them.

We can carry out a full, clinically based, assessment of the person to ascertain if they may potentially be eligible for full NHS funding for their care home placement.

As part of this service, a full explanation of your loved one’s current nursing needs and their care home funding options will be provided, along with a detailed report to be used in the future as a tool to identify changing needs.

Also as part of this service, we will undertake an inspection of the care home records, ensuring they are accurate, complete, robust and effectively describe the person’s current needs.

This service can be invaluable as care fees can be extremely expensive.  If eligible for funding, the person will retain all of their estate and during the term of the funding will not be required to sell any property to fund their care.

Applications for Retrospective Funding for Unassessed Periods of Care

It is still possible for clients to apply for retrospective funding in respect of relatives who may have passed away or who may currently be in a care home.  If the person was not assessed appropriately during their time in care, we can investigate to see if there is a case to apply for retrospective funding.

This is a very complex area of work and requires specific written reports.
